There are hundreds of seniors who trusted the crocus fund and deposited their life savings in the fund, thinking that they could earn a little interest on their deposit while helping their beloved province, Manitoba, prosper. I understand that mayor Sam borrowed tens of millions dollars from the fund and has never paid it, nor interest on it, back. The seniors whose money he absconded with are left living out their sunset years in abject poverty while this Sam Katz has their money. The tax bill regarding the Goldeye parking lot that Sam was able to dodge paying took millions away from Winnipeg residents. How much slim does the public have to suffer at the hands of this scoundrel?

Sam is a stand up guy, and the ONLY thing that stands between a socialist & corrupt far right wing regression---also known as Judy and her band of Union Thugs---though she is more their puppet than the other way around.

It is time for a change. This guy was never a good mayor and his connection to city businesses, including many he owns or stands to benefit from, is truly unethical. Let's vote him out WINNIPEG!

I think Sam Katz is an excellent mayor and not sure how many of the facts that the reviewers know. How can you call a person shady when you have not had any dealings with the person? I would much rather have someone trying to build successful businesses out of the place that he lives than having someone who has no knowledge in this area. Granted, I do not pretend to know all of the facts on his dealings, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Too many times have I seen only one side of a story, especially with public figures.

Does anyone actually think that one person in a short time can fix the roads that have been neglected over the years? Do people understand that the roads in Winnipeg are challenging even at the best of times due to the ground composition underneath? That as well as the extreme temperatures with freezing accelerates the breakdown of the roads. It will take a long time and not even sure it is possible to correct this situation.

I think in order for businesses to succeed in Winnipeg, it is great having a mayor who understands this. The more successful businesses based out of Winnipeg the stronger the city becomes...

This guy is an awful mayor. The main reason he won was by cause he was the fairly popular owner of the Winnipeg Goldeyes. As the first reviewer pointed out he has always been a booster of the city of Winnipeg. This boosting of Winnipeg is only surpassed by his shameless self-promotion. As with many business people who concern themselves as much with their public persona as with their business ventures, Mr. Katz success as a businessman has often been as much PR as anything. Then there was the promise to put his businesses in a blind trust if elected Mayor and a subsequent refusal to do so after being elected.

This guy was elected on a promise to fix Winnipeg's roads. That's pretty much it. And he hasn't done it. October 2010 can't come soon enough.

I will start with the positive. The best thing about this guy is that he has believed in this city all his life. He started the Goldeye's and helped build the mini-ball park. Hence the good grades for leadership.

Now for the rest. He is shady. There is no way around it. He has been involved in lawsuits about his dealings as a business man. He continues to own/operate a business while being mayor - an obvious conflict of interest. Remember the shady parking lot sale last year I think? Really, just shady - low marks for honesty.

And likeability... I think I was generous here with 3 out of 5. He is really annoying and scattered. I remember when he was elected, his speech on that night included "you really like me." Blah. No one likes him, he's just the best option available until someone else steps up to the plate (forgive the baseball metaphor).
